What Are Disc Injuries?

Between each of the vertebrae in the spine, there are soft, gel-filled pads called discs. The purpose of these discs is to cushion the vertebral bones so that they do not touch or rub together.

Spinal discs are a somewhat fragile component of the spine and can become injured through an accident or through degeneration. Degenerative disc disease affects the discs of the spine. This condition causes spinal discs to break down, crack, and dry out over time. This can cause a great deal of pain.

An accident or an injury can also cause harm to the discs of the spine. If the spine is injured, a spinal disc can rupture. This is called a herniated disc. This conditions will cause a great amount of back pain and will decrease mobility. It is imperative that this condition is treated quickly.

How Can a Chiropractor Help?

When you first visit our chiropractor, you will be evaluated for your overall health and diagnostics will be performed. This will help our doctor pinpoint the exact cause of your neck pain or back pain. Following this, a treatment plan will be developed for you. Treatments can include:

  • Spinal Decompression - This form of treatment will gently stretch the spine out so that pressure between each vertebra is relieved. This also allows a better flow of oxygen, nutrients, and blood to get to the disc so that it can begin to heal.
  • Spinal Adjustments - Another helpful treatment is spinal adjustments. Spinal adjustments involve the application of strategic pressure in order to bring the spine back into proper alignment.
